You’ve been injured in an accident and the lawyer you contacted for a free consultation doesn’t think you have a viable case. Perhaps he or she explained their reasoning. But you really didn’t understand the legal mumbo jumbo given you. Unfortunately, many accident victims take a lawyer’s opinion as gospel and do nothing further.
Not all lawyers see potential cases in the same way. Maybe you contacted a lawyer that doesn’t mainly handle personal injury cases? Maybe the lawyer has never run across a fact pattern such as yours? There are many reasons why lawyers reject cases.
As all personal injury lawyers offer free consultations, it is in your best interest to get a second or even third opinion. You have nothing to lose.
If every lawyer you’ve contacted passes on your case, and has explained why in a way that you understand, then you need to look at other options. One is to try to resolve your claim with the insurance adjuster assigned to your claim (if the responsible party is insured.) Or you might want to consider small claims court where you can represent yourself.
The bottom line is to not be discouraged if a lawyer rejects your case. Keep at it until you understand why the case is not worth pursing (Why Won’t A Lawyer Take My Case?).

January 22, 2016 at 8:46 pmGetting a second or even a third opinion is really good advice! If the first lawyer you speak with tells you that he can’t help you, that doesn’t meant that there isn’t someone who can. I agree that you have nothing to lose by getting free consultations.

January 25, 2016 at 6:33 amI think it is probably a good idea to get a second or third evaluation on your personal injury case regardless of whether or not the first lawyer you see tells you that you have no case. How do you know the first attorney you see is the best one to help you? Since it doesn’t cost any extra, why not? Since you will be working closely with your lawyer it is a good idea to make sure he is someone easy for you to work with.

March 14, 2016 at 10:43 pmFabulous post John.. Yes I agree that taking a second opinion is must. This will help you to make a right decision for your case. When you hire an injury attorney, you invest invest your money into it. So it becomes necessary to invest your money in the right place.
Its really a good idea to get a second or third opinion on your personal accident case.

June 22, 2016 at 9:39 amI love your comment to not be discouraged if a lawyer rejects your case. This is a common occurrence for people who don’t understand legal matters and are tired of being told no. Don’t let an opinion stop you. I agree that if you don’t understand why they said no then you should go out and figure out what would be wrong with your case.
